The events of the film are carried out in 1970 and 1971 mainly in the Colonia Roma district of Mexico City. Cleo (named after the character in Clo AGNs Varda from 5 to 7) is a handmaid at the Sofia home whose home consists of her husband Antonio, his four young children, Sofia’s mother, Teresa, and another handmaid, Adela. In between scenes from Cleo’s life with the family his cleaning, cooking, taking the children to school that serves them meals, the children sleeping and awaken sie-it is clear that the marriage of Sofia and Antonio is strained. After a short return Antonio comes back out, says he goes to the fi for a few weeks. In his spare time, Cleo and Adela go to the theater with their friends FERMN and RAMN.
